The Risk: Star Wars Edition game lets players recreate the dramatic final moments of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Across a TIE fighter-shaped gameboard, players can determine the fate of the Star Wars universe through 3 concurrent, yet distinct, battles. The 3 battles going on simultaneously are: the attack on the Death Star, the shield assault, and the battle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Opponents choose to play as the light side or the dark side of the Star Wars saga, and use the classic Risk dice to control characters and ships. Not your typical Risk game Risk Star Wars edition does not closely resemble past Risk games, including previous Star Wars iterations. Firstly, it plays best as a two player game, though you can split up into teams.

Take a Risk on this version of Risk? I own the previous two versions of Star Wars branded Risk as well as several other variants and also classic Risk. That said, I will say this is not your run of the mill Risk format. That turns out to be quite a good thing. I like the idea of Hasbro developing their games beyond their original roots. Keeping the Risk brand lets people know it will be a confrontational game, but it is not really like the continental conquest you may have grown up with. I generally only play and buy Hobby…

Awesome game, so-so components We flat-out love this game. As you’ll read everywhere, it’s not Risk, except in the broadest sense of moving little bits around on a map (in the central third of the game). It’s the climactic battles from Return of the Jedi recreated as a board game. Every turn you’ll have to decide where to concentrate your efforts: the ground battle on Endor, the space battle around the Death Star, or the Jedi battle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. The ground and Jedi battles are definitely sidelights…
