Looks better than the Original I remember when the original version was released. Having always been interested in the civil war, I badly wanted it, but I was too young. Now some 10 or 11 years later, I own the much better reissue version. I have been after this game for some time now, and it was well worth the long LONG wait! I purchased “Battlelore” a few years ago so I had an idea of what to expect from battle cry( since it uses the same type of game board and similar figures and rules). But even with the similarities, battle cry is much more different than I thought.The rules are easily learned and make the game very enjoyableThe plastic soldiers are don’t feel as durable as the battlelore troops, but for the most part are very sturdy, and add a type life to the game( especially when painted)I saw a review that said the flags don’t stick well. Sadly this true. It does’nt take away from the game at all, but it is somewhat annoying. It is easily fixed however. Some people have glued…
Great Afternoon Beer and Pretzel Game I found this little gem to be a great game!It is simple enough to be learned and played quickly, yet detailed and versital enough to start and stay interesting. The game is definitely an abstraction of Civil War tactics, so if you’re into minutea and detail-like Squad Leader, you probably won’t care for this game too much. But, if you can stomach the idea of relatively unit sizes (the rule book states that in some scenarios the units can represent regiments, but in larger scenarios those same units can represent entire divisions) and scope of battlefield, you’ll probably like this game. While it is somewhat simple, I still think it does a good job of capturing the essence of being a Civil War Battlefield commander. And if you’re a history buff, the scenarios all have a quick historical background.Let’s open the box, shall we? The pieces are pretty detailed but the plastic is soft enough that the rifles and flag poles won’t snap very easy, yet they’re not so…
