The sounds are limited and there is no music This train looks great. It is painted in bright Christmas colors primarily of red and green. The track snaps together easily but since it is a “Ready-to-Play” set, it is NOT compatible with other Lionel track systems. In other words, if you want to incorporate other items to this set – they would have to be part of a “Ready-to Play” set since the other track system are not interchangeable. I think it’s perfect for their age I just bought this for my 2 and 5 year olds to go under the Christmas tree. I think it’s perfect for their age, except I do have to supervise them when using it because somehow the cars get off the track. Probably user error from the wild train drivers. It’s fun and entertaining, and the quality seems nice. Just be prepared with 3 AAA batteries and 6 C batteries. I forgot and my husband had to do a quick trip to the store.
