The K’NEX® Education Roller Coaster Physics Set is designed to help students as they learn how to design and conduct scientific investigations, identify variables of the problem and select appropriate independent and dependent variables for investigations. They will determine the steps necessary to control a variable, observe and record the response, and interpret the results. They will measure, record, and analyze the data for patterns, construct scatter plots or histograms as a graphic representation of the data, and mathematically interpret those graphs The Teacher’s Guide offers ideas, in the form of nine lab exercises, that outline ways in which students in grades 11 and 12 may use the set to study physics, and in particular mechanics. The studies adopt a hands-on, student-inquiry based approach in which the teacher is encouraged to develop each lab investigation using the 5E model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate) of inquiry while students utilize the Four Question Strategy for experiment design. Set includes 2039 K’NEX® parts – enough to build 11 roller coasters, inclined planes, and loop systems using K’NEX®! Supports 6 – 8 students working in teams. Grades 11 – 12. Building instructions comprehensive teacher’s guide aligned to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Standards included. Packaged in 3 strong storage trays with Snap-on lids. Also see K’NEX® Education’s Amusement Park Experience (Grades 5 – 9).

Brandy Bergenstock says:

Not doable in a regular classroom- Did not work. Ok-FIRST they do not tell you that the physics can really only be done in the teacher’s manual, or fully examined, IF you already own several hundred dollars in high speed cameras, measuring equipment and separate, not included, software. This kit is nothing more than the roller coaster set with a cd manual. The concepts were not middle school! It has been a few years since my high-school, but I did that work in college. My colleagues agreed with me that this was not middle school work, but it…
