Gorgeous, well-made little train. One of the gifts for my son’s second birthday. The locomotive has decent power and acceptable train battery life. It can pull or push a couple-three cars, even up a little hill. It’s cute and well-made. The little freight cars, however, are truly adorable: the cement mixer turns as it goes, and the little coal car rocks from side to side.Fits our Melissa and Doug railroad, the locomotive and the car can also be mixed and matched with other trains–Maxim, M&D, and Thomas.
Buy if you like the cars, not for the train. The other reviews are right. This train is so slow that it is no fun. It will go up a single level bridge, but it can also derail really easily. My 3.5 liked the concept, but after a day barely uses it because of the issues. The cars are great, and he has added those to his other trains. This train may get played with, but rarely, and even then goes through good quality batteries. It moves on it own! This is an awesome item from Brio! We are always happy with Brio. We like the quality and simplicity of Brio train products and so does our little toddler. This powered engine runs on a single AAA battery. It has a light on the nose of the engine that lights up as it goes around the track. This is a perfect add-on to the start set.
