Shogun is a strategy game by Dirk Henn. Japan during the Sengoku period: each player assumes the role of a daimyo, a feudal lord, and his armies, trying to unite the country under his banner. They conquer provinces and develop them by building temples, theatres and castle. Once a battle ensues, it is decided by the unique cube tower mechanism: both armies are thrown in together, the cubes that fall out again are the survivors of the battle.

Great strategy with just the right amount of randomness Shogun requires you to balance your focus in a way I personally have not seen in other games. You have to carefully choose which action to take from which province. The order in which the actions are taken is determined at random by shuffling a deck of cards. This can lead to plans falling apart due to losing provinces or not receiving taxes in time to pay for certain actions.
